Besides the indigenous communities, more and more people of various cultural backgrounds have settled down and called Taitung home. When it’s time that family members get together and enjoy the reunion dinner, Taitung has a lot to offer in terms of its variety. Take Paiwan community in Tuban for example, Masuvaqu/Millet Harvest Festival in summer is when they harvest millet, worship their ancestors and hold a pig-slaughtering ceremony to express their gratitude. Vuvu, an indigenous respectful term for elderly ladies, will prepare gavay/millet dumpling and binilawi/millet sweet balls to share with everybody in the community. You can also find salty and sweet cake originating from Tainan, rice cake soup from Japan and Spaetzle from Germany and many others. Let’s discover what’s on the reunion dinner table at Taitung Slow Food – Reunion Feast on Dec. 7 and 8.
