2022 Taitung Slow Food Festival

It was the first time that Taitung Slow Food Festival took place at the coast. More than forty shops participated this “Seafood Feast” event. In addition to the market, many seafood related activities were organized, such as seafood spotting at the shore, touring around the harbor and slow seafood talk. Many parties including local fishermen, chefs, and marine environment education groups, were invited to promote a more responsible and sustainable attitude toward seafood consumption.

    Yuchi and her husband have been catering for more than four decades in Chenggong. They were especially invited to present this local classic dish. While the water was boiling with great steam and the oil was bubbling, Yuchi calmly explained each step of this dish and shared their life stories in between.

    Learning Fish Cutting from an Expert

    It’s one thing to eat fish but quite another to cut one up. Many fish purchased in Chenggong harbor end up here to be prepared by the local fish-cutting expert, Xinxian. Within no time, the Mahi-mahi is sliced into clean-cut pieces. Via the demonstration, we get to appreciate each section is prepared into a dish and to appreciate each bite with gratitude.

    Slow Food Tour

    At the Sea / A Trip around the Harbor

    Welcome on board to the whale-watching boat. We’ll learn about different fishing boats and ways of fishing in Chenggong. The captain will also explain where fish catch is unloaded, where boats get refueled, where the ice is picked up before heading out and where boats get the maintenance. We’ll learn all about the importance and the history of this 90-year-old harbor.
